Serving Communities for Over 3 Decades

A True Force
For Good

AOC has been a notable force in serving the community of Chicago. We have dedicated ourselves to delivering essential community engagement initiatives, feeding the homeless, and combating violence to create a safer and more compassionate city. Through our tireless efforts, we have become a trusted and integral part of the fabric of Chicago, deeply rooted in the communities we serve.

All About the Community

Community engagement lies at the heart of our mission. We believe in the power of connection, collaboration, and collective action. Through partnerships with local organizations, community leaders, and residents, we have fostered a sense of unity and togetherness. We organize events, roundtables, training sessions, job fairs, and workshops, providing platforms for community members to voice their concerns, share their ideas, and actively participate in shaping their neighborhoods. We empower individuals to become advocates for change and mobilize resources for community development.

Violence prevention has been a cornerstone of our work since day one. We understand the devastating impact of violence & we help break the cycle…

Through evidence-based programs, community outreach, and collaboration with law enforcement agencies, we have made significant strides in reducing violence and creating safer neighborhoods. We engage with at-risk individuals, offering mentorship, counseling, and educational opportunities to break the cycle of violence and provide alternative pathways to success. Our violence prevention initiatives are rooted in community trust, active participation, and a shared vision for a violence-free future.

Meet Dr. Wright

Dr. Herstine Wright is our President and Co-Founder. On the picture below, you can find her (on the left) with Cleopatra Cowley (in the middle, also known as Hadiya Pendleton’s mom) and Tiajia Pupillo (on the right). Dr. Wright has a true passion for outreach ministry and community development!

Dr. Wright can be seen occasionally in neighborhoods across our city in the streets, in tent city, homeless shelters ministering, and feeding and supplying resources to those in need.  For her exceptional work with children and in the community at-large, she received the M3:16 Community Award and was featured in one of the issues of the magazine.

Recently, her organization under the Advocates of Change banner, established the VIP (Violence Intervention Program) for youths and young adults to combat violence in the community by offering and alternative to violence, which is prevalent in the African American community.

She is the president and CEO of Sonflower Publishing Company and Wrihers Ink companies.  She is also a teacher of the Word of God and an acclaimed author. To date, she has written and published 8 (eight) powerful spiritual books that are distributed worldwide, and she has traveled throughout the nation, appearing on TV and radio shows, and signing copies of her books at various venues.

Dr. Wright’s books have been used in Bible Study groups at various churches such as Rhema Word Ministries, New Faith Baptist Church, New Community Church, and many others. She has also been a member of Valley Kingdom Ministries International for 29 years.
